2027 Is Coming. Is Your Voiceover Demo Ready?

If you’ve been putting off getting your professional voiceover demo produced, I want to give you a little motivation to finally get it done.

There’s been plenty of noise lately about AI voices, cheap synthetic narration and every new piece of technology that is supposedly going to replace voice actors. But while all of that gets the headlines, the advertising and content business continues to grow. Industry forecasts are pointing to continued growth in digital advertising, video, connected TV, streaming content and podcasting as we head into 2027, which means there will continue to be a tremendous amount of content that needs a voice.

Will AI be part of that world? Of course. It already is. But I’m not interested in competing with somebody charging twelve bucks for an artificial voice generated in six seconds. Those aren’t the clients I’m trying to attract, and that’s not the level of work I’m talking about.

Professional producers, agencies and clients still need actors who can interpret copy, take direction, understand nuance, make creative choices and bring an actual human connection to a message. And if you want those people to hire you, they need a quick and professional way to hear what you can do. That’s exactly what a strong demo is for.

One statistic I’m extremely proud of is that 18 of the last 20 voice actors whose demos I produced went on to land representation on talent agency rosters. That’s a 90% success rate. Of course, a great demo doesn’t guarantee representation or bookings, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling magic beans. What it does give you is a professional marketing tool that allows agents, producers, casting directors and direct clients to hear your range and decide whether you may be right for an upcoming project.

We’re also seeing the value of good demos through our own casting opportunities. We’ve had a number of paid bookings come directly from those casting calls, and whenever it makes sense, I encourage talent to submit a relevant professional demo along with the audition. The reason is simple: the audition shows the client one read, while the demo shows them what else you can do. That can make a difference.

As we head toward 2027, I think sitting on the sidelines worrying about AI is the wrong strategy. Keep training. Get your studio right. Have a competitive demo. Market yourself. Build relationships. Audition. Follow up. Keep improving.

There is still plenty of work out there for talented human voice actors, but the people doing the hiring have to know you exist.

If you’ve been thinking about producing your first professional demo, or replacing an older one that no longer represents your best work, get in touch with me. I’d be happy to listen to where you are right now and help you figure out the next step. terry@uvtcoaching.com
